My Mantel

Slowly, I have been decorating our home since we moved in last September. I have so many organizing and decorating projects planned, it just takes time to make it happen. My most recent project was adding a bit of life to my mantel. Before it was just empty.

I wanted to add a 4th color into my living room color scheme to give all the other colors a little more flavor, so I’ll slowly be adding a few peachy touches. These flowers are my first peach addition and I love them.

The fake-fresh flowers were easy to make. I found the silk flowers I wanted first and then found the vase. I got a package of “simulated water” from the craft store. I mixed up the “water” in a disposable container and poured it into the vase. After that, I arranged the flowers the way I wanted and let the simulated water harden and cure for 8-10 hours. The bubbles float to the top as it cures.

I like my decor functional and beautiful if possible, though beauty can be reason enough. This trunk will hold all of our little family mementos we gather, like sand dollars from a beach trip or ticket stubs from plays.

This clock has been around our whole marriage and I still love it. And the pear, what can I say – I have a thing with pears now.

Here is the top of my entertainment center. See what I mean about pears?

Happy Decorating!

  1. Hi Mary! Stopping by from Kelly’s. I really like your mantle and the colors you’ve used. The “fake” real flowers look great! Blessings, Dani

  2. I love your pears. They’re adorable. That little touch of water really makes those flowers look real–I’ll have to look for that at Hobby Lobby.
