I am so excited to share this post with you today, because this is a really special treat! As a reader of this blog, you probably know by now that I have a passion for my family and organizing, and that I also run a local business organizing for clients. You probably also know that I am part of a team of women who work together to market Shaklee products. Besides sharing occasional specials with you and sharing on my blog about some of the products I use, I’ve never really shared with you about my Shaklee team. Bonnie is one of my mentors on our team and she has taught me so much! (When you make it to the bottom of her story, you’ll see a picture of me when I stayed at Bonnie’s home for training. I’m laughing – because that is what I do most.) Before I met Bonnie in person and only knew her online and from her blog, she totally intimidated me and I was so nervous to meet her! When I met her, I found that she was a sweet, down-to-earth person, and we went from business partners to friends very quickly! She inspires me constantly to dream big and has helped me build my Shaklee business. I asked her to share her story today to inspire you too!
Thank you Mary for having me here today! ;) I am excited to share my story with you today!
My “work from home” story started in the fall of 2009 when I was introduced to blogging.
At first, I thought blogging was a complete waste of time!
Who has time to blog?
Why would anyone spend their time blogging?
What are the benefits?
I don’t care what others are doing. Why would they care about me?
I found a few blogs which turned into 3 hours of nonstop blog hopping and obsessing over these bloggers.
I was hooked!
I loved these women that I didn’t know and I got some really great ideas from them.
I read about decorating, organizing, healthy eating, etc. and I NEEDED my own blog!
I loved the connection with other women and all idea sharing.
So, what did I do?
I started my own a few days later.
At first, I wasn’t planning on making money from my blog but then I saw other women selling products, jewelry etc. (This was before corporations took over ads and reviews.) It was all mom businesses only!
I didn’t really have a “business” but I had an opportunity!
You see, I had been using health and wellness products from a company called Shaklee for 10 years. I LOVED the products, the company, and the opportunity it had. They had just came out with a new DREAM PLAN (compensation plan) that was the best in the industry. They already had best products, rated #1 Natural Nutrition Company in the United States, and now the best pay!
My friends and family were already hooked so I thought maybe I could share these amazing products with the new women that I was meeting online while I blog about my everyday life!
I didn’t know what would happen.
I never considered myself a business person.
I was 26 with 3 kids pre-school age and under all at home with me but I had a passion for Shaklee and something started to come alive within me when I talked about the products and opportunity! I decided to commit myself to my new business for a full year (something that I had never done before).
It’s sounds silly but I wanted to make $1,000 a month (even if it took a whole year to earn it).
I am not sure where that number came from but it seemed like a lot to me and I thought it would be freaking amazing if I can do that while working from home.
I was a stay at home mom and wanted to stay at home! To me, that was important!!
Well, I worked my butt off! I worked during naps and after the kids went to bed….sometimes into the early morning hours.
I didn’t care!
I had the passion! I had never felt anything like this before.
At first, my husband kind of made fun of me and all I could say was….“This is going to be HUGE!!”.
I just knew it! Something inside me told me to do this and that this was right for me.
It made me happy! It was not always easy but I enjoyed it.
Well, about 6 months into my new journey, I reached my goal of making that $1,000 a month and I was pumped but things changed in my mind.
It wasn’t about the money.
I LOVED what I was doing. I told my husband, Scott, that I would do it for free. (He didn’t like that but he knew what I was saying, lol!)
I loved sharing the best products and business in the world!
I also loved meeting new people, learning new skills, and doing something for myself.
Money can’t buy those things and they meant more to me than anything!!
I guess my love for the business and products made a ripple effect because other people wanted to do what I was doing.
My business was growing faster than I thought it would.
With this kind of business, I am not trading time for money. I am investing my time!
I know all the time I am investing now will continue to pay for the rest of our lives and we can even pass this business down to our Grandchildren.
Within the past few years, I have received free Tiffany goods, jewelry, an IPad, etc., been recognized on stage in California, Washington D.C., Las Vegas, Mexico, and Chicago for achieving different ranks and accomplishments, received car bonuses, earned 3 paid vacations to California, Mexico and a Celebrity Cruise, and have also been on Shaklee’s Leadership Calls, newsletters and prints while adding a 4th baby into our family!
Currently, I am earning a full-time income (almost $50K a year) and growing.
The best part is that I am helping other people get healthier and grow their own businesses to create their own stories.
I am excited that Mary joined Project Dream (our Shaklee Team)! She is an amazing leader who really has a passion for health and natural living!
We even had a sleepover at my house! :) (We all live in different states but got together for training.)
