Back-to-School Teacher Gifts

Call it a bribe or whatever you want, but I think it’s nice to give teachers a gift at the beginning of the school year. Why not start off on a positive note with the person who will be with my child so much during the school year?

I’ve noticed teachers pens can go missing often: easily borrowed and innocently carried away or left around the school. I wanted to give my kids’ teachers a stylish way of identifying their pens and pencils easily. This project turned out so cute that I’m tempted to do this to all of my pens/pencils at home too. Here is the easy way I created this one of a kind gift.

How to make an awesome Back to School Teacher Gift

It was actually pretty simple to create! The longest part was waiting for the paint to dry, but it was dry by the time I attached all the accents to the pens and pencils.

Here are all the supplies I used –

Back to School Teacher Gifts - Supplies

Supplies —

  • Flower Pot
  • Acrylic Paint
  • FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam
  • Design it:® Simple Style® Decorative Mesh
  • Design it:® Simple Style® Rocks Galets
  • 6 Design it:® Simple Style® Burlap Flowers
  • 6 Pencils
  • 2 Design it:® Simple Style® Burlap Birds
  • 2 Permanent Markers
  • 2 Design it:® Simple Style® Butterfly Picks
  • 2 Red Pens
  • Hot Glue
  • Felt

Step 1 – Paint your flower pot. I started off painting green, but then changed my mind and painted over the green to blue. One of my favorite things about paint is how easy it is to change your mind.

Step 2 – Attach Burlap Flowers to the pencils. So easy! Wrap the wire around the pencil. Cut out a small rectangle of felt and hot glue it over the wire onto the burlap flower.

Step 3 – Attach Burlap Birds to the markers. Even easier than attaching the burlap flower! Detach the clip from the burlap bird, then squirt a good-sized glob of hot glue on the bottom. Press the tip of the marker lid into the hot glue and hold it until set.

Step 4 –  Attach the Butterfly Pick to the red pens. Wrap the wire around the pen clip. Apply hot glue to hold it into place.

Step 5 – Prepare the flower pot for the pens and pencils. Add foam to the bottom. I cut the balls in half and wrapped it in decorative mesh so it would blend with the pot. I just pushed it down snugly into the flower pot, no need to glue it or anything.

Step 6 – Add a layer of rocks to hold the pens and pencils into place.

Put it all together! I love love love how it turned out! I would want one!

Seriously, though, wouldn’t you be happy to be the teacher receiving this from such a cute little student?

All three of my girls will be giving these to their teachers next week. Hard to believe school is already starting, but I have to admit that I love this season of freshly sharpened pencils and new notebooks. School is in the air!

Thank you to FloraCraft® for providing their awesome craft supplies! Even though they provided products for this post, all ideas and opinions are my own. I personally suggest following them on Pinterest for lots of great ideas.
